What are cannabinoids and what is CBD?
CBD stands for cannabidiol, an active substance that comes from the cannabis or hemp plant. CBD is just one of the hundred or so cannabinoids that occur naturally in the hemp plant. THC, CBG and CBDA are some other cannabinoids.
CBD is what is known as a phytocannabinoid, “phyto” being Greek for “plant’. Just like the other active substances from the cannabis plant, in molecular terms CBD is very similar to the endocannabinoids that animals and humans manufacture themselves. It is exactly for this reason that phytocannabinoids work with endocannabinoids, in our bodies and in the bodies of horses. You can read precisely how this action works in our CBD Wikipedia page. What it essentially boils down to is that phytocannabinoids, such as CBD, can provide significant benefits to the body thanks to this useful action.
Why give CBD to your horse?
The Renova hemp pellets are specially produced to maintain the well-being of your horse or pony in a completely natural manner. The pellets are rich in essential nutrients and cannabinoids and are therefore highly beneficial to the animal’s health, and optimal performance.
The hemp pellets are suitable for all breeds: whether your horse is a huge draught horse or a miniature. Renova hemp pellets can be added to the horse or pony’s daily feeds. Naturally you the owner want the very best for your noble steed!
And it’s not just people, animals also have an endocannabinoid system. And just like in humans, this system is also involved in animals’ important bodily functions that contribute to the body’s normal functions. These include things like perception of pain, the motor system, mood and state of mind, and the blood pressure. Whenever the endocannabinoid system is out of balance, the unpleasant effects on the body can be observed in different ways. By ingesting CBD the endocannabinoid system can be restored to balance, so that the irritating imbalance is righted.
What are hemp pellets?
Hemp pellets are nutritional pellets that contain hemp extract. This hemp extract is full of phytocannabinoids and essential nutrients for horses, such as proteins and carbohydrates.
Proteins are extremely important nutrients for horses. Proteins serve as the building blocks for tissue in the horse’s body. Carbohydrates are true energy suppliers and therefore useful for horses that need extra energy, such as horses in top competitions, for example.

Is hemp good for horses?
Renova hemp pellets are a source of high-quality proteins, with a high content of fats and carbohydrates. They also contain essential fatty and amino-acids. All in all, a healthy and nutritious supplement to your horse’s daily feeds.
Will my horse get high or stoned from the hemp pellets?
No, a horse cannot get high or stone from using the hemp pellets. ‘THC’ is necessary for getting high; this is the abbreviation for Tetrahydrocannabinol and can actually be regarded as the psychotropic little brother of CBD. THC also comes from the cannabis plant and is psychotropic, because it causes a high.
THC is not used in Renova products, including the hemp pellets. This means that the hemp pellets are not at all psychoactive and it is not possible to become high or stoned from them. This is good, as it is partly for this reason that horses can also benefit from the beneficial qualities of CBD products like these pellets.
Naturally produced in Colorado: the hemp state of the USA!
Each hemp pellet is produced naturally in Colorado, as are all other Renova products. Local farmers monitor the air and soil quality very closely. No pesticides, solvents are other chemical agents are used in the production process of the hemp pellets, so you are assured of a completely safe and natural product.
The hemp pellets have a minimum cannabinoid content of 0.3%, in addition they contain 20% of plant-based proteins, 30% of insoluble fibres and 50% complex carbohydrates. The hemp meal used for the production of the hemp pellets is sterilized, sieved and mixed in for the safety, workability and consistency of the product.
To prevent mould, an FDA-approved mould inhibitor is added to the hemp pellets (the FDA is an agency of the United States government). This increases the shelf-life of the pellets.
