CBD and ketosis

How CBD and the Keto Diet Can Work Together

It’s undeniable that people have become increasingly aware of what they’re choosing to eat. Indeed, more and more people are choosing to take charge of their health by giving up tobacco, getting enough exercise, and eating a healthy diet – but what does healthy eating really mean? By now you’re probably familiar with the keto diet. This low-carb, high-fat eating plan has surged in popularity in recent years.

What is keto?

Keto is shorthand for the ketogenic diet, an low-carb eating plan that involves eating plenty of dietary fat, a moderate amount of protein, and very few carbohydrates. While fat has a bad reputation for causing people to be overweight and obese, fats are an essential part of our daily diet – in fact, consuming foods high in fat can actually increase your metabolic rate. The goal of the ketogenic diet is to get your body to switch from burning carbs to burning fat for fuel and gets its name from the metabolic state called “ketosis.”

The keto diet requires that you eat as few carbs as possible and emphasizes healthy saturated fats, low-carb vegetables, and moderate protein intake. Because sugar is a carb, many keto dieters drastically reduce their daily sugar intake.

Being in a state of ketosis – a normal metabolic process – means that your body has switched from depending on carbs for energy to burning fats for fuel. This particular diet aims to induce ketosis in order to burn more fat: research has shown that when people are in this metabolic state, they are able to burn their stored body fat reserves for energy.

While it may have surged in popularity in recent years, the Keto diet has been around for a long time: in fact, ketogenic diets have been therapeutically used for over a century! It is also similar to the ever-popular Atkins diet, which calls for replacing carbohydrates with proteins.

How can CBD and the Keto Diet complement each other?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the 104 chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. A majority of these cannabinoids are formed on the plant’s leaves and buds. Another well-known cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. CBD and THC are often mistaken for each other, even though both compounds are completely different and have unique properties.

Unlike THC, however, CBD is not psychoactive — that is, it will not get consumers high. Instead, CBD is used for its calming and pain-relieving effects: one of the most remarkable things about CBD is the sheer variety of its potential therapeutic applications. Besides its therapeutic value, CBD can serve as a perfect complement to a healthy lifestyle.

Hemp oil that contains CBD is often sold as a dietary supplement. As you are probably aware, cannabidiol, or CBD, has become a household name. These days, it is taken for a wide variety of reasons: as CBD and the ketogenic diet may well go hand-in-hand when it comes to promoting general wellness, it should not come as a surprise that many have chosen to combine the two to boost their performance and optimise their lifestyle.

In recent years, interest and research into CBD and the ketogenic diet have surged. Multiple other studies have had similar outcomes, which might suggest that there’s a power synergy – i.e., a state in which two or more things work together and produce an effect greater than the sum of their individual parts – between combining a keto diet with CBD.
With any CBD product, it is best to take the CBD after a meal. If necessary, the dosage can be increased according to individual requirements.
