Description

Taking a lunch break between appointments: looking after yourself feels especially welcome on busy days. Living Nutrition Holy Basil brings a well-loved herb from Ayurveda to your daily meal. The organic leaves are fermented and made into plant-based capsules.
There is no need to brew tea or weigh out loose herbs. With a glass of water, the capsule is easy to take with food, at home or on the go.
At a glance
- Fermented organic holy basil leaf.
- 300 mg per capsule and 60 capsules per jar.
- Vegan and free from gluten, soya and dairy.
- Prepared with cultures from kefir and kombucha.
- Freeze-dried and made in the United Kingdom.
An herb for calm and resilience
Holy basil is traditionally used to support mental resilience. The herb has a long history in Ayurveda, the traditional health practice from India. There, it is among the herbs used during periods of busyness and tension.
You may also come across the word adaptogen. This is a collective term for herbs traditionally used to cope with stress. With holy basil, the emphasis is on caring for your mental wellbeing.
The leaf contains various natural plant compounds, including aromatic compounds and polyphenols. Polyphenols are substances plants produce themselves and are also found in many other herbs.
The leaf takes centre stage
These capsules contain the leaf of Ocimum sanctum. Living Nutrition processes the organic leaf as an herb, with the various components naturally present in it.
The preparation differs from herbal tea: the leaf is first fermented and then dried. You ultimately use the powder in a capsule, rather than water in which herbs have been steeped.
This makes the form appealing when you want to use this herb without flavouring a whole cup of tea with it. When you swallow the capsule, the powder stays inside the shell.
How Holy Basil is made
Living Nutrition adds cultures from kefir and kombucha to the herbs. During fermentation, bacteria and yeasts convert substances in the leaf. It is a natural preparation process you may also know from various fermented foods.
Freeze-drying follows. The mixture is frozen and its moisture is removed, leaving a dry herbal powder. No hot drying stage is involved.
Production takes place in small quantities. This attention to preparation is characteristic of Living Nutrition: fermentation is a regular part of making the capsules.
Composition per capsule and per day
| Ingredient | Per capsule | Per day (2 capsules) |
|---|---|---|
| Fermented holy basil leaf (Ocimum sanctum) | 300 mg | 600 mg |
In addition to the organic leaf, the formula contains a plant-based capsule shell. No fillers have been added. The product is suitable for vegans and contains no gluten, soya or dairy.
The herbs are certified organic. Genetically modified ingredients are not used to make these capsules.
How do you take Holy Basil?
For adults, take one capsule twice a day with food and a glass of water. Breakfast and the evening meal are two convenient times, for example. There is no need to make any other changes to your meals.
At this dosage, the jar lasts 30 days. This costs €1.00 per day, based on the current product price.
Quality and storage
Living Nutrition makes the capsules in the United Kingdom. The brand was founded in 2014 by Graham Botfield and focuses on fermented herbs and foods.
Store the glass jar in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Close the lid tightly after use. This protects the herbal powder from moisture in the surroundings.
When does Holy Basil suit you?
Are you drawn to traditional herbal practice and specifically looking for holy basil in an organic capsule? Then this is an appealing, focused choice. The combination of leaf, fermentation and a plant-based shell reflects attention to both the herb and its preparation.
You will find Holy Basil among our food supplements. A convenient form for those who enjoy using herbs but do not want to prepare a separate tea or herbal blend.
